Prosecutors office detective killed in New Jersey home invasion

A New Jersey prosecutor’s office detective was killed in a home invasion in Bridgeton.

Detective Sgt. Monica Mosley was shot Tuesday night after police received calls about several people kicking in a door, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Police arrived to find the 51-year-old investigator mortally wounded. She died at the crime scene. Authorities reportedly located a suspect at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where the person was being treated for a gunshot wound. The unidentified suspect was expected to be detained for questioning.

Mosley joined the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal before becoming a county detective in 2009, according to a statement from the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office mourning her death. The office said Mosley served the community “with honor, dignity and respect before her untimely passing.”

She worked with the county’s trial teams, Special Victims Unit, Community Justice Unit and internal affairs division, where she was a supervisor.

The prosecutor’s office thanked local police for their “fervent efforts to bring to justice those responsible for Sergeant Mosley’s demise,” though no arrests were immediately made, according to the Asbury Park Press.
