May’s NS&I Premium Bond prize winners have now been announced – and there are over five million of them.
Snapping up the £1million jackpot prizes are two lucky account holders in the south of England. The first winning bond number of the million-pound prize is 514CV247038 to a bondholder based in Hampshire.
The winner has a holding of £45,000 in Premium Bonds and purchased their winning Bond in September 2022. They become the thirteenth £1million jackpot winner from Hampshire.
The second Bond number to be drawn for the £1million prize this month was 401XE212038 and the Bond holder lives in Outer London. The winner holds £10,575 in Premium Bonds and purchased the winning Bond in July 2020. They are the eleventh Premium Bonds jackpot millionaire from Outer London.
Andrew Westhead, NS&I retail director, said: “Congratulations to our two new millionaires from Hampshire and Outer London.
“We’re glad that we can bring a smile to so many people each month with our tax-free prizes, ranging from £25 up to £1million. This year we celebrate thirty years since ERNIE drew our first ever millionaire.
“The total prize pot for May was more than £453million with over 5.8 million prizes being drawn. Each £1 Bond has an equal chance of winning so the more you save the more chances you have to win a tax-free prize.”
Checking Premium Bonds prizes
Premium Bonds holders can easily check if they’ve won a prize in the May draw from Thursday, May 2, by checking the NS&I website, the prize checker app, or simply asking Alexa.
To check on the NS&I website, customers will need their Premium Bonds holder’s number, while for the prize checker app, they’ll need their NS&I number or holder’s number. People can also check for any unclaimed prizes owed to them.
Prizes are split into three value bands – higher, medium, and lower – and each band receives a percentage share of the monthly prize fund.
Prizes in the higher band can range from £1million (only two of these can be won) to £5,000, while the medium and lower bands award people the chance to win between £1,000 and £500, and £100 and £25, respectively.
A total of 5,888,574 prizes worth £453,420,125 will be paid out in the May 2024 prize draw.
Winners are usually notified when they win a Premium Bonds prize, however, some people may move or change their contact details without updating NS&I, which can lead to unclaimed prizes—especially those who opt to receive prizes via cheque.
At present, more than 2.4 million Premium Bond prizes worth just over £80million are currently going unclaimed.
Taking the location of the jackpot winners, there are 63,780 prizes worth £2,104,350 that are yet to be claimed in Hampshire.
In Outer London, there are 222,004 unclaimed prizes worth £7,746,975.
To receive prizes faster and more securely, customers can opt for automatic bank deposits or reinvestment into more Premium Bonds, which is how 90 percent of prizes are paid to winners.
NS&I said “This is quicker and more secure than waiting for a cheque. Customers can find instructions on how to change payment preferences here.”
