The Foundation of Hearts is the majority shareholder in the club, and they will begin a consultation period after receiving the proposal.

They will have the opportunity to examine the proposal before voting on whether they want to approve the bid.

The offer has been made by Brighton owner Tony Bloom, 55.

It will see the Seagulls chief purchase a 29 per cent stake in the club for £9.86million.

The bid requires a majority of shareholders to say yes and any transaction remains subject to entry into legally binding documentation, SFA approval and other normal course regulatory requirements.

Hearts fans have reacted positively to the development and are optimistic it will prove to be an effective move.

One reacted saying: “I think this is brilliant news as we might finally become title challengers in a few years.”

Another added: “We are back.”

A third wrote: “Surely after the season we’ve had no fan would vote against this Mon the Bloom.”

And another commented: “Absolute no brainer and hopefully a game changer 🤞🏼”

Brighton have enjoyed a meteoric rise under Bloom’s stewardship since he took over in 2009.

He has overseen two promotions, taking the club from League One to the Premier League and the Europa League.

Bloom is also a majority shareholder of Belgian Pro League club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, purchasing his stake in 2018.

They have won promotion since his takeover and are currently top of the league, having finished second last season.
