Pointless returned to BBC One this evening with another instalment of the fan-favourite quiz show and Alexander Armstrong was back presenting alongside his co-star and adjudicator Richard Osman.
On today’s show was Geoff and Julia, David and Sorcha, Isla and Sam and Stephen and Richard all hoping to get a Pointless answer and take home the jackpot.
Those watching at home saw Alexander introduce the first round, and the topic was Words.
But it wasn’t long before Richard revealed a rule of the game not many knew about.
“Let’s find out what the question is, here it comes,” Xander said. “We gave 100 people, 100 seconds to name as many words ending in…ox as they could.”
Joining in the conversation, Richard clarified: “Yes, we are looking for any word which has it’s own entry in British and World English section of oxforddictionaries.com please that ends in…ox.
“As always, no proper nouns, no hyphenated words. Very best of luck!”
Julia was up first and she began: “I’ve got a word, I don’t know, Botox,” and Alexander said: “Let’s see how many of our 100 people said Botox.”
As the screen split to show the board, she received a 100 points for her answer Botox.
“Oh, oh. There will be a reason we will here any minute now,” Xander explained “why that scores you a hundred points, but it seems it does.”
Crossing to Richard, he revealed: “It’s a brand name, Botox, it’s a trademark.”
Annoyed by scoring a solid 100 points within the first answer of the quiz show, her teammate Geoff didn’t do much better on the second part of the first round.
“Geoff what would you like to go for? I’m afraid you are our high scorers at the moment,” the host remarked.
“I’m just going to make one up I think,” the player said, “Just see if we can get down a bit. I’ll put relox.”
Slightly uncertain as to the word choice, Alexander reiterated: “Relox? Ok. Let’s see if that is right, no red line for you as you ar the high scorers. But let’s see what happens when we say relox.”
Pointless fans saw another 100 points scored and the red arrow blare across the board.
“Bad luck I’m afraid Geoff, an incorrect answer score you 100 points and that takes your total up to 200,” Alexander commented.
It was no surprise they were eliminated from the quiz show after this round.
It comes after a show earlier in the week when viewers saw Richard reveal a bizarre fact about Alexander.
Pointless airs weekdays at 5.15pm on BBC One
