Pennsylvania woman sentenced to 2 life terms in hanging death of her 2 children

A Pennsylvania woman convicted in the hanging death of her two young children five years ago has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of life in prison without parole, prosecutors announced this week.

Lisa Snyder was found guilty of killing her two kids, 4-year-old Brinley and 8-year-old Conner, in September 2019 and then trying to pass it off as a suicide.

Berks County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Theresa M. Johnson delivered the verdict against the 41-year-old mother on Sept. 24, following a seven-day bench trial, which doesn’t require a jury.

On Thursday, the judge sentenced Snyder to two life terms followed by eight-and-a-half to 17 years on child endangerment and evidence-tampering convictions. She also said the crime was the most violent murder she had seen, noting that the defendant didn’t show any remorse.

The two young children were found hanging in the basement of their home in Albany Township, about 60 miles west of Philadelphia, on Sept. 23, 2019.

They were rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where they died three days later.

According to police, Snyder called 911 to report that her son was being bullied at school and had threatened to take his own life. She also said he didn’t want to die alone.

However, investigators found no evidence to back her claim.

During Thursday’s hearing in Berks County, Snyder declined to address the court.

Owen Snyder, the 22-year-old brother of the young victims said he no longer considered the defendant his mother, calling her a “monster.”
