A quick-thinking Taco Bell manager is being hailed as a hero after jumping into action and performing CPR when a baby stopped breathing in the restaurant’s drive-thru.
The incident happened last Saturday at a location in Richboro, Penn., when Natasha Long was picking up lunch between errands with her 11-month-old son Myles.
While in the drive-thru, the child started having difficulty breathing.
“I ran out of the car and ran around and opened the car door,” Long told local ABC affiliate WPVI. “I pulled him out and he turned completely blue and was lifeless. At that point, I just completely blacked out. I didn’t know what to do.”
Manager Becky Arbaugh heard Long screaming and rushed to help.
“I threw my headset. I ran outside,” the manager told the station. “I took the baby and I started to do chest compressions on the baby and then he finally started to breathe.”
She added that one of her daughters had a similar incident several years ago, so she was prepared.
“I knew what she was feeling,” Arbaugh said. “I knew if I kept her calm and I stayed calm, there was no thought in my mind that the baby wasn’t going to breathe again.
“I just thought of myself as a mom with another mom that needed help.”
The 11-month-old was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to fully recover.
It remains unclear what caused him to stop breathing.
