We all store bread in different places.
From bread bins to cupboards to, in some cases, even the fridge. When it comes to food storage, there seems to be endless options as to where people can tuck away their goods.
But, according to Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood, you should only store it in one place. In a recent TikTok video, the celebrity baker said it’s a common thing he gets asked about, and he’s finally revealed the answer.
According to Paul, if you store it in the fridge, it’s actually likely to turn stale three times quicker. He said this is because you’re “drawing all the moisture out of the loaf”.
Paul added: “To be honest, I just put it in a brown bag, and put it on the side.”
If you do your research, you’ll also discover that bread should be kept far away from the stove, the top of the fridge or anywhere else that’s close to heat. Ideally, you want to store it in a dark, cool section of your kitchen counter or pantry.
As for Paul’s tip, it’s left many surprised. People can’t believe all he does is tuck it away on his kitchen counter.
One person offered another tip in the comments section on TikTok, writing: “The best thing is a beeswax wrap. I use it for my sourdough and it lasts so much longer.”
Another wrote: “People don’t use a breadbox?” A third also replied: “Yes, I knew this.”
Some people were adamant it stays fresher in the fridge though, despite the advice from the expert. Others also admitted they prefer keeping theirs in the freezer to use the loaf up in stages.
Another chimed in with: “Totally disagree. I keep mine in the fridge, and it’s just fine.”
One more wrote: “This is so dependant on climate and the environment of your kitchen. Fridge will lengthen the life.”
