Outlander season 5: Jamie Fraser star teases devastating ending as family 'torn apart'

0

Outlander fans are eagerly looking forward to taking on the fifth season early next year. But while they may be expecting the return of some delicately-crafted family life scenes between star couple Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), they may find themselves struggling to keep their family together this season. The family has grown exponentially in the past couple of seasons, as Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) married Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin), and eventually gave birth to baby Jemmy.

But as the series goes on into the depths of the Revolutionary War, the Frasers and their allies will no-doubt be thrown into a collection of battles, which could be life threatening.

While not a huge selection of details have yet been revealed to viewers, Jamie star Sam recently spoke out at New York Comic Con about season five, and how it will test the characters once again.

It is no secret Jamie has found himself struggling with his allegiance, as he is currently on the side of the British – opposite where he would like to be – and hunting godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) for the authorities.

It’s now been teased by Sam this turn of events could indeed lead to some troubling times for the Frasers.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at NYCC, Sam began by speaking about the couple’s relationship in the upcoming series.

He explained: “There is still a lot of humour, and a lot of passion.”

Sam went on to tease the upcoming season’s themes, saying: “This whole season, I think, is about the family.

“And about the family sort of needing each other to fight these exterior forces.”

However he went on to ominously add: “And the family really is getting torn apart this season.”

With a brand new baby in the mix, and war on the horizon, it is no surprise the family is beginning to feel strained in places.

Luckily for Claire, she does have a unique way of getting out of her bad situation.

And this answer was teased in the most recent teaser trailer for season five.

Claire could be seen talking to Jamie about the war, who was eager to let her know she should leave if she needs to.

Worried, Jamie said: “When this war you told me about eventually comes, it would be safer in your time.”

To which Claire ambiguously replied: “I’ll do what needs to be done.”

But towards the end of the trailer, Claire can be heard whispering something which may have sealed her exit on the show already.
