Seasons one and two saw Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) navigating some tricky waters in seasons one and two of Outlander, as the red-headed Highlander was stuck in between his two uncles Douglas (Graham McTavish) and Collum MacKenzie (Gary Lewis).

The duelling brothers were a major part of the STARZ and Amazon Prime Video series at first, and formed a large part of Claire Randall Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) integration into the 18th Century.

Sadly the end of season two saw both characters die in incredibly dramatic fashion, and neither have been seen since.

Now though, Dougal actor Graham has teased there could be a huge twist on the cards, and he could be returning to the series in season five or beyond.

In a new interview with sknr.net, the star spoke about his current role on historical drama Preacher when he was suddenly prompted on Outlander.

The publication asked: “While your character is essentially dead in Outlander; in later books his son with Geilis does make an appearance.

“Is there a flashback opportunity? And what was it like filming something that highlighted the history of your culture?

Keeping his answer short but pivotal, Graham shared: “The beauty of a show that allows time travel is that anything can happen.

“We shall see…” he went on to tease.

Asked how he felt about wearing different period costumes on both Outlander and Preacher, the star insisted it was a dream come true.

He said: “Preacher and Outlander both gave me the opportunity to fulfil dreams of being a cowboy and skilled highland warrior.

“In Australia, a leather duster coat, hat, boots and woolen trousers was not the most relaxing outfit in 100 degree temperatures.

“I envied Ian Coletti in his shorts, but not his prosthetic!”

Graham went on to discuss his lasting love for Scotland, assuring he returns as often as possible.

“I’m visiting Scotland now,” he enthused. “I get back as often as I can.

“I love outdoor pursuits, cycling, archery, clay shooting, as well as reading books, history and fiction.”

Outlander fans will also be pleased to know Graham and old friend Sam [Heughan] are teaming up to host a brand new podcast together.

The new venture is called Clan Lands, and will see the two actors talking anything and everything about Scottish history and culture.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk about the project, Graham said: “We haven’t decided [the release date] yet because it will take all of September to do it, so I would expect that it will either come out towards the end of the year or early in the new year.

“We’re going to be recording it in September and obviously we’ll edit it and everything like that,” Graham explained, adding: “I’m not sure when it will be coming out.

“I’m going to be with Sam in Scotland and we’re going to be travelling all over Scotland and exploring the history of Scottish clans, feuds, their landscape, the stories that are stranger than any fiction, and the stories that shows like Outlander are partly based on.”

“So I’d be the history guy and Sam will be the outdoors guy and I think it’ll be a really interesting combination,” Graham added.

Outlander season five returns to STARZ and Amazon Prime Video in 2020.
