Out of control MTA bus breaks through retaining wall, dangles over street in the Bronx

An MTA bus driver lost control of a city bus Friday morning and broke through a retaining wall in the Spuyten Duyvil section of the Bronx, leaving the vehicle dangling over the street.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m., when the unidentified driver crashed through a stone retaining wall over Kappock St. near the Henry Hudson Parkway, leaving the front half of the bus hanging about a dozen feet off the ground.

The vehicle was not carrying any passengers at the time, according to MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan. FDNY first responders were able to get the uninjured driver safely off the bus.

Donovan said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Fire officials confirmed there were no injuries, and said FDNY crews continued to work the scene late Friday morning.
