This week, we are taking the next step in that relationship. My government has signed a first-of-its-kind deal with the US.
We are deepening our partnership with America, delivering on our promise to save thousands of jobs in our steel and manufacturing industries – without compromising on food standards.
Take the UK steel industry. Last month, it was on the brink of collapse.

This government intervened to take control of British steel and save thousands of jobs in Scunthorpe.
Now, with this deal, we have negotiated the 25% tariff down to zero.
Or UK carmakers. We’ve reduced export tariffs from 27.5% to 10%.
That could save Jaguar Land Rover potentially hundreds of millions of pounds a year and saves the jobs of the workers in the long run.
This deal is a winner for the British people. It is a winner for UK industry and jobs. It is in the national interest.
