The famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile crashed in a rollover wreck Monday on a highway in the Chicago suburbs.
Illinois State Police said the Wienermobile was driving north on Interstate 294 near Oak Brook, a western suburb of the Windy City, when the novelty vehicle collided with a northbound sedan around 11:12 a.m.
The driver of the hot dog-shaped rig lost control and overcorrected before rolling onto its side.
No one was injured but one lane of I-294 was closed down before all traffic resumed around 12:30 p.m.
Video of the aftermath showed the vehicle on a platform truck before it was moved from the crash site.
“We’re grateful that everybody involved is safe and there were no injuries,” the company said in a statement. “We’re offering ongoing support for our Hotdoggers, and we appreciate the support we’ve received from local authorities. Safety on the road is top priority for us.”
According to Oscar Mayer, there are six official Wienermobiles that tour the country, driven by the company’s Hotdoggers. They each measure 23-feet long and offer a number of hot-dog related features inside, including mustard and ketchup seats, a hot dog-shaped dashboard, a removable bun-roof and a horn that honks out the company’s famous jingle.
The first Wienermobile, which was 13-feet long, debuted in 1936.
