Newly-released body cam videos show only mere seconds passed between the moment NYPD cops encountered a man armed with a knife in the hallway of a Queens apartment building and the instant they shot him to death.
Officers responding to a 911 call about a stabbing in an apartment hosting a Rego Park party appeared startled when they encountered the man in a hallway.
Cops had just climbed a flight of stairs to the second floor shortly before 7 p.m. on March 8 and opened the door to the hallway when they saw Dgamshed Nematov about two doors down. He had just stabbed his wife.
The videos show Nematov charging with the knife in his right hand in their direction before the first of four shots ring out, just five seconds after the hallway door was opened.

Dgamshed Nematov was shot to death by police after he stabbed his wife at their grandchild’s first birthday party in March, said police.
Two officers fired the four shots. A responding sergeant fired his Taser.
“Whoa,” one of the officers shouts. “Put it down.”
Nematov does not comply and charges two steps toward the cops before the gunfire echoes off the hallway walls.
A woman screams in the background.

The officers performed CPR on Nematov before medics rushed him to an area hospital, where he died from his wounds. The knife was recovered at the scene.
“This situation was fast-paced and dynamic,” NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey said at a news conference shortly after the incident.
Officials said Nematov, 46, had stabbed his wife, Amira, with a long, serrated kitchen knife at what had been a joyous first birthday party for their grandchild.
The party at the 62nd Ave. home was also International Women’s Day, an important holiday in some former Soviet republics, relatives said.

Amira suffered two knife wounds to her stomach, both inflicted before officers arrived at the scene, police said. She was treated at a local hospital.
Nematov and Amira have two boys and two girls between the ages of 14 and 23, friends said.
The NYPD identified the officers involved as Kimberly O’Rourke, Michael Tavares and Sgt. Raymond Decostanzo. O’Rouke was the first in the hallway, followed by Tavares and Decostanzo.
O’Rourke fired one shot. Tavares fired three and Decostanzo fired his Taser.
The incident is also being investigated by state Attorney General Letitia James’ Office of Special Investigation, which looks at police-involved shootings.
