Police arrested an upstate man Thursday for the fatal shooting of the famed “Upscale Cracc” sneaker reseller in Soho this past spring.
Jayquan Straker, 35, was charged with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Javier Osario-Mejia. Police at the time suspected it had been a robbery gone wrong. The Poughkeepsie resident also faces charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Osario-Mejia was struck in the right thigh outside of a luxury clothing shop in June on Greene St. near Grand St.. At the time, police sources said that the wound had been so severe, they were convinced he had been shot multiple times.
The well-known sneaker aficionado had been poised to open a new shop on Houston St. according to a friend who spoke to the Daily News shortly after the shooting.
The friend, who gave his name as Andre, said that Osario-Meija had a daughter he raised alongside his business, and described him as a “very active father.”
“This doesn’t feel random. It feels targeted. Everybody loved him,” Andre said at the time.
Information on what led to Straker’s arrest almost two months after his victim lost his life was unclear as of Saturday evening.
