After five successful years together, Djokovic split with Ivanisevic ahead of the clay-court season. The 24-time Major winner took to Instagram to announce the news on Wednesday. “Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid,” he wrote.
The 36-year-old offered an update a day later as he attended the launch of Nikola Pilic’s documentary, revealing that he had no news on a potential new coach. But there are new reports that Djokovic is considering a group of candidates which could include Andy Murray’s mum Judy.
According to Kurir, the two main options are Amelie Mauresmo – who previously coached Murray and is now the French Open tournament director – and Conchita Martinez, a former WTA coach of the year for her work with Garbine Muguruza. Both women had wildy successful playing careers of their own, winning Grand Slam titles.
The Belgrade outlet also said Judy Murray was “certainly one of the options”. It remains to be seen if and when Djokovic hires a replacement coach, but for now he has been training with former player Nenad Zimonjic in Serbia.
Djokovic’s next tournament will be the Monte Carlo Masters, taking place in the second week of April. Before reports of the coaching candidates emerged, the world No. 1 said he was also considering playing without a coach.
