Novak Djokovic reminded of 'explosive relationship' after addressing Ivanisevic split

Djokovic stunned the tennis world on Wednesday when he announced that he was no longer working with Ivanisevic. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be part of my team. It was back in 2018, and Marian and I were looking to innovate and bring some serve magic to our duo.

“In fact, not only we brought serve, but also lots of laughter, fun, year end no1 rankings, record breaking achievements and 12 more Grand Slams (and a few finals) to the count since then. Did I mention a bit of drama too? Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid.”

The drama that Djokovic mentioned has now been noted by Henin, who believes their coaching relationship could get intense. “We don’t know what’s behind it, it’s the type of thing that happens in a race. For one or the other, or even for both, it was time to move on,” the seven-time Grand Slam champion told Eurosport, addressing their split.

“We felt a very strong relationship between the two and that’s why it was also very explosive. This relationship helped him a lot, they had been working together for almost five years. Whatever the reason, we felt a lot of respect and recognition.”

Although Djokovic himself touched on the drama when he made his announcement, he confirmed that he was on good terms with Ivanisevic following their split. Speaking at the launch of Nikola Pilic’s documentary, the 36-year-old said: “First of all, Goran is my friend for life, mine and of my family’s.
