A New Jersey school district employee was arrested Thursday morning after allegedly threatening to blow up Bayonne High School.
The arrest was confirmed in a letter sent to the community by Bayonne School District Superintendent John Niesz.
“The Bayonne Police Department and our security team have done an excellent job quickly handling this incident,” Niesz said. “The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.”
The superintendent did not identify the suspect but described them as a school assistant. News12 New Jersey later reported the suspect was identified by Bayonne police as Neamat Azer, who was charged with false public alarms and released on a summons.
Police said Azer got into an argument with another employee over a parking pass issue. She then allegedly said she was “going to blow up the school,” which was overheard by other employees.
Students and staff were temporarily ordered to shelter in place, but investigators quickly determined the threat was not credible. Police remained at the school for the rest of the day as a precaution.
