A New Jersey police officer was hospitalized early Thursday morning after a serious crash that left a trail of destruction in Little Falls Township.
The incident occurred just after 1 a.m., authorities said.
The officer, who was on duty at the time, was driving a police vehicle when the cruiser crashed into a Chevrolet dealership, passed through the parking lot of a tire shop, and came to a stop in the parking lot of a pizzeria, according to NorthJersey.com.
The vehicle also clipped the roof of a Knights of Columbus building, while debris from the crash damaged a residential building, WABC reported.
The officer, who has not been identified, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson with serious injuries but was listed in stable condition, said Peter Andreyev, president of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.
“Please keep him and his family in your prayers,” Andreyev wrote on social media. “Thank you to all who reached out with concern.”
While two buildings were directly impacted by the crash, no structural damages were reported, according to the Little Falls Buildings Department.
The incident remains under investigation.
