Nikki Haley scheduled to speak at Republican National Convention after initial snub

Nikki Haley, Donald Trump’s former rival for the 2024 Presidential GOP nomination, will be a speaker at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday, an official said Sunday.

The former U.N. ambassador and two-time South Carolina governor stumped against Trump until March — the last holdout among a slate of Republicans angling to get their names on the party’s ballot. She wasn’t initially invited to the GOP convention, and wasn’t scheduled on the roster. But spokesperson Chaney Denton told The Associated Press Haley’s camp had been informed of the schedule change.

An unnamed GOP official confirmed to AP that Haley’s speech was on.

Haley officially released her delegates last week so they could vote for Trump at the nominating convention — and called for the Republican Party to unite, saying she herself would vote for him. The two candidates had traded barbs for months, with Haley accusing Trump of ignoring international alliances and sowing chaos, and Trump attempting to denigrate her with nicknames like “Birdbrain.”

Haley’s speaking spot came a day after a gunman opened fire during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, when Trump was grazed by a bullet that hit the top of his right ear. Later, Trump recounted that if he hadn’t turned to point at an immigration chart he was referencing, he would have been hit squarely in the head.

Two people in the audience were wounded and one was killed shielding his family from gunfire, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said.
