Nigel Farage’s fuel duty promise could save motorists up to ‘£200 per tank’

Mr Cox is standing as a candidate for the party himself in Dover and Deal after previously contesting May’s London Mayoral election against Sadiq Khan.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Howard said: “The average family car would save £11 per fill-up. A biker would save £1.50 per tank, a medium-sized van £20, and HGVs would save £100 to £200, depending on tank size.

“Putting these common-sense tax savings into drivers’ and businesses’ pockets would deliver tax revenue from real economic growth and stimulate business investment—more jobs and a surge in corporation tax due to increased business profitability and viability.”

It comes after the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) questioned Reform UK’s planned spending pledges as they admitted the sums “do not add up”.

Fuel duty currently stands at 52.95p per litre after Chancellor Jeremy Hunt maintained the temporary 5p reduction in his Spring budget.

Fuel duty rates have remained frozen or been cut at every budget since 2011 costing the Government over £100billion in foregone revenue.

Forecasts by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) suggested that simply freezing fuel duty at its current rate until 2029 would cost Britain £15bn in tax revenues.

The Labour Party has backed the continued fuel duty freeze but Sir Keir Starmer failed to categorically deny any future rises in a recent Sky News leaders debate.

However, Howard believes Reform can help put pressure on the winner of July’s election to keep costs down for motorists across the country.

“I will be working tirelessly on behalf of diesel and petrol drivers, as I have for over 14 years to at least keep Fuel Duty frozen.
