New York man charged with murdering pregnant wife, stabbing 2 kids

An upstate New York man has been charged with the murder of his pregnant wife and the attempted murders of two children, state police said Thursday.

Troopers responded to a home on Houck Road in Masonville around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night for a reported domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, they determined Drew J. Garnier, age 32, had stabbed his pregnant wife, 29-year-old Samantha Garnier, as well as two kids. Police did not release the children’s ages or their relationship to the suspect.

Samantha received aid at the scene before being airlifted to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, where she succumbed to her injuries.

One child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. The other was first taken to Wilson Medical Center before also being taken to Upstate Medical Center.

The conditions of the children are currently unknown but both are expected to survive, state police said.

Drew Garnier was arrested and briefly hospitalized at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Details of his injuries were not released.

After being treated, he was processed, arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail.

He has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree.

It’s unclear when he’s next scheduled to appear in court.

A news conference with more updates on the case is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at the state police headquarters in Sidney.

Masonville is a small town in Delaware County about 35 miles east of Binghamton.
