A 42-year-old New Jersey woman doused in acid by an assailant allegedly hired by her ex-boyfriend was reportedly stalked for nearly two weeks before the assault last month.
The victim suffered chemical burns on over 35% of her body after a woman carrying a container of sulfuric acid attacked her on her way home from work, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators claim the alleged attacker, identified as 38-year-old Betty Jo Lane, then sped away from the crime scene with her boyfriend, Jmarr McNeil, 39.
Both suspects are Florida residents, investigators said, and were both “recruited and compensated” to carry out the attack by William DiBernardino, who had dated the victim.
The alleged assailants from Jacksonville reportedly traveled to New Jersey in a rental car to commit that assault.
The chemical attack occurred on July 26 in Monroe Township. The unidentified victim was airlifted to a burn center where she was still being treated as of last week.
All three suspects were arrested in Florida on felony counts including conspiracy to commit murder.
Prosecutors could not immediately be reached for comment.
