TWO Social Security payments will be hitting accounts next month.
A quirk in the schedule means that the monthly payment will hit twice in May.

Some people who receive Social Security benefits will see two payments hit their accounts next month.
Each month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends billions of dollars in benefits to about 70 million Americans.
In May 2025, 7.4 million Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will get two payments.
These are for people who are disabled or blind and have very limited income or assets.

One will be distributed on May 1 and the other on May 30.
Typically, SSI payments go out once a month on the 1st.
However, when that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are moved up to the prior business day.
“When the first day of the month falls on the weekend or a Federal holiday, you receive your SSI payment on the last business day before the first day of the month,” the SSA explained.
“That means you may get two SSI payments in the same month.”
“We do this to avoid putting you at a financial disadvantage and make sure that you don’t have to wait beyond the first of the month to get your payment.
“It does not mean that you are receiving a duplicate payment in the previous month, so you do not need to contact us to report the second payment.”
The agency recommends waiting three business days before reaching out if a payment doesn’t show up.
Weekends and public holidays do not count as working days.
While SSI checks typically go out at the beginning of each month, other Social Security benefits—such as retirement, survivor, and spousal payments—are sent out according to either the recipient’s birth date or how long they’ve been getting benefits.
In May, those payments will be distributed on the following schedule:
Friday, May 2: Retirement benefits for people who started receiving checks before May 1997 and those who also get SSI.
Wednesday, May 14: Benefits for anyone born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
Wednesday, May 21: Payments for those with birthdays between the 11th and 20th.
Wednesday, May 28: Benefits for people born from the 21st to the 31st.
What Are the SSI Benefit Amounts?
The maximum SSI benefit in 2025 is $967 per month for individuals and $1,450 for couples.
That said, your actual benefit may be lower depending on your earnings, family income, living situation, and other factors.
Generally, SSI is available to individuals making no more than $2,019 a month from work and receiving under $988 a month from other sources like unemployment or pension payments.
Couples and parents applying for their children have higher income thresholds.
