Nets trade Dorian Finney-Smith, Shake Milton to Lakers for D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round picks: report

The Nets have agreed to trade Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton to the Los Angeles Lakers for D’Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis and three second-round picks.

The news was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by the Daily News. The full trade details have not been released.

The Nets traded Dennis Schröder and a 2025 second-round pick to the Golden State Warriors earlier this month for De’Anthony Melton, Reece Beekman and three unprotected second round draft picks.

The return for Finney-Smith and Milton gives Brooklyn a stabilizing presence at point guard in Russell, another intriguing young prospect in Lewis, and 31 total draft picks over the next seven years — 15 first-round picks and 16 second-round picks.

The Lakers are sending out their own second-round picks in 2027, 2030 and 2031 in the deal, according to ESPN.

Finney-Smith, one of the Nets’ more versatile defenders, averaged 10.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 45.9% from the field and 43.5% from 3-point range. However, the 31-year-old had been limited to 20 games in 2024-25 because of injuries. He will earn $14.9 million this season and has a $15.3 million player option in 2025-26.

Milton, who had 16 points and 12 assists off the bench in Friday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs at Barclays Center, averaged 7.4 points and 2.4 assists while shooting 38.9% from deep this season.

Russell was an All-Star with the Nets in 2019. He is on an $18.7 million expiring contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
