Name and photo released of suspect wanted for fatal Bronx 2023 stabbing

Cops on Wednesday released the name and photo of a suspect wanted for a fatal 2023 stabbing at a Bronx fast food restaurant.

Eduardo Martinez, 29, is wanted for the murder of 23-year-old Orlando Miranda, who was knifed multiple times in the upper body outside a Kennedy Fried Chicken on Willis Ave. near E. 139th St. in Mott Haven.

Miranda was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he died.

Miranda was known to the area by neighbors who said he would hang out near the restaurant around closing time in hopes workers would give him unsold leftovers.

“He was always very thankful for what he could get and wasn’t mad if he couldn’t get anything at all,” a relative of victim, Serea Lee said after his slaying. “He was the type to walk away from a confrontation.”

The stabbing was caught on surveillance videos which show the clash that led to the victim’s death. In one video, the victim, in a red jacket, is standing outside the chicken joint, where he is confronted by a man in jeans, a black jacket and a hoodie walking in his direction.

After a few words are exchanged, both men throw up their hands, although Miranda is in a constant retreat. A second grainy video show the retreat continuing along a rain-slicked street before the men exchanged blows at Willis Ave. and E. 139th St.

A third video shows Miranda stumbling back to the restaurant, where two workers are standing outside. The victim appears to clutch his chest before collapsing face down on the sidewalk. One of the workers rushes back inside, while the other one makes a phone call.

The victim fell on hard times in 2020 and became “detached” after he took a drug that permanently altered his mental state in the wake of his grandmother’s death from COVID, according to relatives.

“Years ago, when he took those substances, he was never the same,” said Lee. “Life was not easy for him but he tried his very best.”

The suspect is described as about 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds with a medium complexion. He was seen fleeing the scene east on E. 139th St.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
