My nightmare neighbour chopped down my 6ft privacy fence – I’ve rebuilt it & taken extra precautions to keep her away

A HOMEOWNER has been at war with her neighbour after they chopped down her 6ft privacy fence.

Tamsin Griffin was then forced to rebuild it again but instead has taken extra precautions for keeping her away from the axe.

Taking to her TikTok page ‘tamsingriff’, the homeowner shared a before and after video of her privacy fence.

She revealed that her wall originally was 4ft high, but they needed it to be 6ft because they had dogs.

Garden fences in the UK can be as high as 100m, but you need to get planning permission for any fence taller than 2m.

However, Tasmin’s neighbour didn’t like it so she took it upon herself to chop it down.

She explained that the council had already been around her house to check it out and even explained that they would be allowed to go higher if they wanted to.

So Tamsin and her family built it back up, but this time they added CCTV to try and prevent the neighbour from doing it again.

She explained that before her neighbour decided to take it down, they left gaps between the fence for light to come through to be nice, but instead it backfired.

Now, they are boarding it up until they can afford for someone to build it back up properly.

However, her neighbour continues to be at war with her claiming that she is blocking the sunlight from coming into her garden.

After just one day of sharing her video, Tamsin received one million views and 1,277 comments.

One person wrote: “Please tell me you’ve informed the police, that’s criminal damage.

“Get the camera up to evidence it!”

To which Tamsin replied: “Police have been round, camera is up.”

A second added: “Sue for criminal damage. I’m raging because you both.

“I think my blood pressure has gone up watching this, that’s actually shocking.”

Whilst a third said: “My friend has a nightmare neighbour like this, unfortunately, they never give up.

“If the fence is entirely on your property, she has no right to destroy it.

“Continue to call the cops and build a case.”

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

  • Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

  • Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

  • Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

  • A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.
