Mum shares how to slash food bill by changing where you shop – to Marks & Spencer

A savvy mum has revealed her secret to managing a weekly Marks and Spencer shop on a budget, claiming she gets more bang for her buck compared to other supermarkets.

Nikita, from Cornwall, manages the grocery shopping for her family of four and has recently found a way to slash her weekly spend at M&S. Despite its reputation for being a pricier place to buy groceries, Nikita – mum is a mum to a three year old and a one year old – swears she’s been able to get all her weekly essentials for a lot less money recently.

Her haul covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the whole week, not forgetting snacks to keep everyone happy. Sharing her tips on TikTok under the username @_journeyofamother, she exclaimed: “I cannot believe how much cheaper our food shop is when we shop at M&S.”

In her latest shop, she snagged chicken legs for only £1.50 and stocked up on a variety of veggies, frozen goods like chips, fish fingers, and chicken ‘munchies’, as well as fresh fruit including oranges and blueberries. She also bagged red onions and broccoli stems.

The thrifty shopper didn’t stop there; she grabbed two packs each of chicken, mince beef, sausages, and different types of potatoes. Her trolley was also filled with crisps, two pots of cream, tortillas, sausage rolls, pasties, pasta, canned goods, juice, cheese, biscuits, cookies, and even some multi-surface cleaner. Plus, she picked up two loaves of bread to round off her shop.

The savvy shopper has taken to social media to reveal her budget-conscious M&S haul, proving you don’t need to break the bank for quality groceries. Her strategic selections ensured a full seven days of meals for the entire household, covering breakfasts, lunches, and dinners aplenty. Plus there are plenty of snacks for her children.

The mum exclaimed that the family’s shopping bill was a modest £88.97, but she cautioned people to shop smart. She explained: “The thing with M&S is that they can get you with their luxury items, but if you can resist temptation, there are some incredible deals. I can’t fault the price of it.”

She also highlighted her previous grocery runs at Tesco would cost her family about £125 weekly, and claimed that Asda was pricier than M&S. The revelation sparked a flurry of comments from other customers.

One shopper chimed in: “I’ve shopped here for about 10 years and I can’t believe people don’t realise how good it is. It’s cheaper than expected. The quality is unmatched.”

Another said: “M&S is so much cheaper but I’m OK with that. People don’t believe it, it keeps it quiet.” Meanwhile another shopper agreed: “We always go to M&S, in my opinion it’s not even expensive plus the quality is top tier.”

And yet another shared: “Honestly we switched to M&S recently I had to convince my partner because he refused because he said it was more pricey. But we get more than Aldi and the fresh lasts longer especially the fruit.”

One customer took to social media to praise their shopping experience and commented: “Same I do an Ocado shop once a week and it’s a mixture of Ocado and M&S and some branded items too and the quality is much better and it’s no more expensive than Sainsbury’s.”
