MTV star Johnny ‘Bananas’ Devenanzio desperately tried to save John Elway’s agent, Jeff Sperbeck, after he tragically fell off a golf cart last weekend.
The Challenge star, 42, was a passenger on the cart driven by the Hall of Fame quarterback, 64, when his longtime friend and agent fell off in a horrific fatal accident.

The two had reportedly just been at a party with their spouses and Elway’s son at the Stagecoach music festival.
An insider told The U.S. Sun that it wasn’t the NFL star’s son who was on the vehicle when the accident occurred, but his son’s friend, reality star Devenanzio.
“Johnny and the agent were both standing where the golf bags normally go,” the insider claimed. “So many people ride this way every day.”
According to the insider, Elway was driving the golf cart, and his wife was seated next to him.
“Jeff just fell backward off the golf cart. He fell in a really bad way, and there was just a lot of blood.
The insider said there was no indication that anyone did anything wrong, and it seemed like this was just a freak accident.
“Johnny was the one helping, dealing with the blood.
“He was holding Jeff’s head, trying to stop the bleeding.
“He was doing his best to comfort Jeff while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.”
The U.S. Sun reached out to Devenanzio and his rep for comment.
The insider claimed there was no wrongdoing that they could discern.
“They weren’t even driving erratically, or speeding, Jeff just fell off balance.
The insider also believed that the road was smooth, without bumps or potholes.
“It was in a really nice area, so everything was well kept.”
The source added that to their understanding, Elway wasn’t drinking, and he was still grieving his sister, Lee Ann Elway McCarthy, who died on April 8.
“John was not drinking because his sister just died from pancreatic cancer.
“This was John’s first weekend of getting back to feeling normal.”
The insider, however, questioned why police weren’t at the scene.
“The police never came. They never did an initial police report.
“The ambulance came, and that was it. Why weren’t police there?”
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Sperbeck died at 62 after falling off the cart.
Sperbeck was rushed to the hospital from the Madison Club in La Quinta, California, about two hours outside Los Angeles, on Saturday evening.
According to TMZ, the business partner was placed on life support upon arrival, having suffered a traumatic brain injury.
There is no indication that the former NFL star acted negligently when he got behind the wheel.
Elway was reportedly the one who urgently called 911 to get his friend medical assistance after the fall.
Elway and Sperbeck shared a decades-long bond that began in the early 1990s when the NFL quarterback signed his future best friend as his manager.
After Elway retired from the league with numerous accolades, the pair remained close and transitioned into business together.
They co-founded 7Cellars, a winery named after Elway’s iconic jersey number.
FINAL DAYS
Elway and Sperbeck had spent time together at Stagecoach, California’s premier country music festival.
This year’s headliners included superstar performers Zach Bryan, Jelly Roll, and Luke Combs. Pop singer Lana Del Rey also made an appearance as she prepares to release a country album.
Though Elway resides in Colorado, their business, 7Cellars, is based in California.
According to the winery’s website, Sperbeck had a storied career as an NFL agent, representing over 100 players during his 30 years in the profession.
Elway, who was drafted as the first overall pick by the Denver Broncos in 1983, achieved remarkable success with Sperbeck by his side. He led the Broncos to two Super Bowl Championships late in his career and was named Super Bowl MVP in 1999.
