Motorcyclist killed in crash with tractor-trailer on Queens expressway


A motorcyclist was killed when the driver of a tractor-trailer cut across traffic and slammed into him on a Queens expressway, police said Sunday.

A 34-year-old man was behind the wheel of an Isuzu tractor-trailer heading west on the Long Island Expressway just after 8:32 a.m. Saturday when he suddenly moved into the left lane toward the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, cops said.

The truck driver ignored road markings as he cut across traffic into the left exit lane, where a 24-year-old man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle, according to police.

The motorcyclist, identified by police as Gregory Benning, slammed into the passenger door of the truck and was thrown to the pavement.

He suffered severe trauma to his torso and right thigh in the crash. He was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center, but he could not be saved.

The driver of the tractor-trailer stayed on the scene and was not immediately charged.

Benning lived in the Ozone Park section of Queens, according to cops.
