Eight months after Morgan Wallen threw a chair off the sixth-floor balcony of a Nashville bar, the country music crooner was sentenced to seven days incarceration at a DUI education center, followed by two years probation.
Wallen appeared on Thursday in Davidson County Criminal Court alongside his attorney, pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. The original charges — three felony counts of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct — were pled down this week.
A defense attorney for the “Somebody’s Problem” had asked a judge on Tuesday to waive Wallen’s right to a preliminary hearing and grand jury.
Along with his time at the DUI center, the judge ordered Wallen to pay a $350 fine in addition to court fees. His “conditionally guilty” plea is subject to judicial diversion, meaning the charges against him will be eligible for dismissal and expungement if he successfully completes his probation.
“Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved,” his lawyer Worrick Robinson said in a statement on Thursday. “Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”
The 31-year-old Tennessee native was arrested in early April after throwing a chair off the roof of Chief’s on Broadway, a six-story bar owned by country music star Eric Church. The chair hit the sidewalk near two Metro Nashville Police officers who were standing a few feet from the bar on patrol.
According to the affidavit, security camera footage reportedly showed Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof.”
Witnesses told police that after doing so, Wallen allegedly laughed. He was taken into custody and released after posting a $15,520 bond, according to Billboard.
