Millions of DWP claimants to see benefits increase up to £749 from next year

With just two weeks until the start of the new year, over 5 million recipients of common Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits are eagerly anticipating 2025, while also preparing for the expected payment upgrade – which could see some claimants receiving £749 in financial assistance each month. The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions recently confirmed that disability benefits, including Carer’s Allowance, will rise by 1.7 per cent for the 2025/26 fiscal year.

Liz Kendall MP also unveiled the new rates for benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Attendance Allowance, effective from April 7. A successful PIP claim currently provides between £28.70 and £184.30 per week in additional financial support.

As the benefit is paid every four weeks-resulting in 13 payments over the course of a year instead of 12-this equates to between £114.80 and £737.20 each payment period. An increase of 1.7 per cent will see those on disability benefits receive between £29.20 and £187.45 per week, or £116.80 or £749.80 every four-week pay period.

Over the fiscal year, this will result in people on the highest awards receiving an extra £9,747 in cash assistance. It’s important to note that the top figure of £749.80 is based on someone receiving the highest award for both the daily living and mobility components.

Attendance Allowance does not include a mobility component.
