Middle school guidance counselor in Connecticut accused of sexually assaulting student

A middle school guidance counselor in Connecticut was arrested for having an “inappropriate relationship with a student,” police said.

Luisa Melchionne, of New Canaan, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with second-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor, the Norwalk Police Department said in a press release. She was being held on $500,000 bond.

Police said that 47-year-old Melchionne, who once served as a guidance counselor at Nathan Hale Middle School, is no longer employed by the district.

The department’s Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into Melchionne back in April, when they received a complaint regarding a Norwalk Public Schools employee being involved with a minor. During the probe, investigators determined she “was sexually involved with a male student,” according to the police press release.

In a statement to News 8, Norwalk Public Schools confirmed Melchionne no longer worked at Nathan Hale, noting that she was dismissed on June 14.

“The safety of our students is our first concern,” school officials said.

“Luisa Melchionne is no longer employed by Norwalk Public Schools as of June 14,” they continued. “Norwalk Public Schools is cooperating with the Norwalk Police Department’s investigation and has no further comment.”
