Michael Schumacher's family 'blackmailed for millions' as F1 icon continues recovery

Two men have been arrested after they attempted to blackmail the family of seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher.

According to a report from the German newspaper Bild, two men from Wuppertal, Germany, have been arrested for trying to earn “millions” from blackmailing the F1 legend’s family.

Specific details of the blackmail case have not yet been made public, but a spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office explained: “We are investigating a case of blackmail to the detriment of a celebrity and have executed arrest warrants in this case. We cannot provide any further information at this time.”

Schumacher’s condition is currently unknown with wife Corinna helping to care for the 55-year-old, who was seriously injured in a near-fatal skiing accident in December 2013.

Since the accident, Schumacher has been kept out of the public eye, but there have still been plenty of attempts to blackmail or extort the family of the former Benetton and Ferrari star.
