Mets ace Kodai Senga’s season likely over due to ‘high grade’ calf strain

Kodai Senga’s 2024 season appears to have lasted just over five innings.

The Mets, who waited four months to get their ace back on the mound after a spring training shoulder injury, watched as Senga got hurt Friday night at Citi Field in the sixth inning vs. the Atlanta Braves.

Senga suffered a left calf strain while coming off the mound after the Braves’ Austin Riley popped one up in the infield and was removed from the game.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters an MRI on Saturday showed a “high grade strain.”

“I think it’s fair to say that he’s pretty much done for the regular season,” Mendoza said.

The right-hander struck out nine in his season debut in the Mets’ eventual 8-4 win over the Braves. He gave up just two hits.

Senga was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Developing story, check back for details.
