Meghan Markle 'inspired' by Princess Kate as duchess channels her 'key' move

Meghan Markle’s latest  style choice was “inspired” by the Princess of Wales’s long history of promoting sustainability, according to a report.

The Duchess of Sussex rewore a striking red dress for a charity event in LA during the weekend – a garment which she has previously worn before.

Meghan first sported the dress in 2021 overskirt to attend the Salute To Freedom Gala in New York with Prince Harry.

But the original silhouette featured a voluminous overskirt, which Meghan had removed for Saturday’s charity gala.

And now according to GB News’s Dorothy Reddin, the move was very “reminiscent” of Princess Kate, who has long been an advocate of sustainability through her fashion choices.

She wrote: “This upcycling tactic is a hallmark of Kate’s thrifty approach to royal fashion.”

The Princess of Wales has been known for altering garments throughout the years.

Her most recent example, which was even labelled a “masterclass in sustainable fashion”, was when she attended the Trooping the Colour celebrations earlier in the summer.

Kate donned a recycled black and white dress by Jenny Packham she had worn on various occasions in 2023.

But during the Trooping appearance, the dress appeared to have its waist modified while a black and white bow was added on the neckline.

The Duchess of Sussex recently talked about her efforts to support smaller and up-and-coming brands with her style choices.

She told The New York Times back in August: “Times where I know there is a global spotlight, and attention will be given to each detail of what I may or may not be wearing, then I support designers that I have really great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that haven’t gotten the attention that they should be getting

“That’s one of the most powerful things that I’m able to do, and that’s simply wearing, like, an earring.”
