McDonald's hit by worldwide outage after 'system failure' as hungry customers fume

McDonald’s fans are fuming after a global IT meltdown has stopped restaurants around the globe from serving food.

Customers have been left raging on social media after staff were unable to take orders in-store and some branches were forced to turn people away. Issues have also been reported with online orders.

The outage appears to have hit branches in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada and New Zealand, but not all McDonald’s restaurants have been affected and some are still open.

McDonald’s Japan confirmed there was a system failure, saying: “There is currently a system failure. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask that you please wait for a while until the service is restored.”

A UK spokesperson said they were aware of the problem and were “looking into” the issue.

Reports of problems with the McDonald’s app started coming in at about 5.30am (GMT) this morning, according to the website Downdetector. Many were upset because they couldn’t get their McDonald’s breakfast.

One person said: “Sooooo, for the first time in ages I’m gagging for a nice McMuffin… order online, drive to the McD’s and… you’ve got a country-wide failure? “

Another person shared: “All McDonald’s in Eastbourne closed due to technical issues.”

Another added: “Why can I order through the app this morning but all of my local McDonald’s are closed when they are meant to be 24 hours?! ” While another asked: ‘”Why cant you take orders with pen and paper and take it back to the kitchen? I’ve not had my McBreakfast today.”

McDonald’s Australia told people they know about the computer problems that have shut down their restaurants everywhere. They said sorry for the trouble and are trying to fix it fast.
