Mayor Adams skips SOMOS conference, citing ‘potential unrest’ in NYC after Trump win

Mayor Adams had all but packed his bags for Puerto Rico — but he is not going to SOMOS, the annual political conference on the Caribbean island, after all, he said Thursday.

“My flight was booked, my hotel was booked, but I wanted to make sure that I’m here,” Adams said at an unrelated press conference.

The mayor said he made the decision to call off the trip after the presidential election, citing potential unrest after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory as a reason he needs to remain in New York City.

The conference began Wednesday, drawing the city’s and state’s politicos to schmooze and learn about Latino issues with other policymakers.

Adams went to the conference in 2021 and 2022 — but missed the one last year, which took place just days after his phones were seized by the FBI in connection with the feds’ investigation into ties between the Turkish government and Adams’ election campaign.

“There’s a lot to do here, and I need to be here for these next couple of days as we move forward, as we make these transitions,” the mayor said. “There’s a great deal of work that I have to do.”
