Martin Lewis pension check lands woman £62,000 payout

A Martin Lewis fan has managed to claim a £62,000 payout after checking a tip issued by the money saving expert.

Martin, who is currently on a lengthy career break, previously shared a pensions check which was taken up by a woman in earnest, landing her £62,000.

The Money Saving Expert website shared Deborah’s story following Martin’s lucrative advice.

Martin Lewis had been speaking about finding and reclaiming lost pensions. This is because workplace pensions are set up automatically when you start a new job, and some of us will have as many as five different pension schemes over the course of our careers, all in different places with different providers.

It stands to reason that some of these will simply be lost along the way, but the pension will still be held and keep growing in value, even if you forget to keep tabs on it.

Martin told his followers about the Pension Tracing Service which can help track down lost, misplaced or forgotten workplace pensions.

The tool has access to hundreds of thousands of different pension schemes and who is enrolled in what.

In the space of just a couple of hours you could find you’re owed tens of thousands.

Deborah told MSE: “I’ve been having a major sort-out recently and among my husband’s paperwork, I found information about a very old pension from 1998 and four addresses ago… before we were even married.

“He couldn’t remember having it, or if he’d cashed it in at some point. We used your advice about tracing a lost pension, and today a letter arrived confirming he has a pension pot of £61,700 that he didn’t know he had! So a big thank you! That will make a big difference to our retirement!.”

If you do know who your old employer was, you can also contact your ex-employer and their HR department directly, who could help to speed up the process of letting you know who your pension provider at that workplace was.

This isn’t just your pensions, but if a close relative like a spouse has died, you could be eligible to claim their pension as well.
