United ‘don’t deserve Champions League’
Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Manchester United do not deserve to play Champions League football next season if they win the Europa League.
He told FastSlots: “Tottenham and Manchester United both have the chance to save terrible seasons in the Europa League, but does either side deserve to play in the Champions League next season?
“Absolutely not. Both teams don’t deserve to be among the Champions League teams for the next season.”
‘Bilbao more important’ – Amorim
Ruben Amorim has claimed that Thursday’s clash against Athletic Bilbao is the club’s “most important” match.
Speaking after the 4-3 loss to Brentford, he said: “I think it’s stressful to lose games.
“When we’re fighting for a title it’s not stressful.
“I have no doubts that we are playing better and we are understanding the way we play, even in this context.
“So we have to take all the hits in this moments.
“We are losing games in the Premier League, but we are fighting for the Europa League so we need to accept that and to think about now Thursday which is the most important game for us.”
Amorim explains rotation
Ruben Amorim has explained why he made eight changes to the team ahead of the defeat to Brentford.
He said: “We, as a club, need to understand in this moment that we have a big responsibility [to win the Europa League].
“We have to prepare a squad for different competitions.”
Still to play
While Manchester United’s main aim will be to win the Europa League, there are still some matches left in the Premier League.
The Red Devils still have three league games to play with fellow strugglers West Ham on Sunday.
The club then face Chelsea before finishing the season with Aston Villa.
‘Big problems at United’ – Rooney
Wayne Rooney has insisted that Manchester United’s success in the Europa League is distracting from the disaster in the Premier League.
He said on MOTD: “I think the second team [United’s U-21s] are playing a back four which I found strange because the second team, a lot of those players will be playing in the first team. “
Man Utd target Mbeumo
Manchester United are set to join the transfer race for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
That is despite United being on brink of a deal for Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
According to The Telegraph, Mbeumo is expected to be one of Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim’s top targets this summer.
