Lionel Messi stole the show at the Nou Camp, netting a brace to compliment his all-round sublime performance as United struggled to contain the superstar.

It was a lesson for the visitors and showed just how much work needs to be done at Old Trafford to turn the club back into genuine contenders for domestic and European honours.

United’s transfer policy has been criticised in recent seasons but the club will be determined to make positive steps when the summer window opens.

A number of stars have also been tipped to leave while several key players will have to enter new contract negotiations.

Express Sport has highlighted four players that could arrive at Old Trafford this summer based on latest transfer rumours.

Jadon Sancho (from Borussia Dortmund)

Dortmund star Sancho has reportedly been on United’s radar for some time.

And it’s easy to see why given the level of creativity he brings to the side, which is something United have lacked at times this season.

Sancho has scored 10 goals and made 13 assists in the Bundesliga this season, putting him in a bracket with Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard and Pablo Sarabia as the only players to have reach double figures in both goals and assists in Europe’s top five leagues.

According to the Independent, the Old Trafford club have made the 19-year-old their top summer target.

The report adds that United are also willing to pay in excess of £100million to land the attacker.

Saul Niguez (from Atletico Madrid)

Saul has been attracting attention from a host of top clubs around Europe following a string of impressive performances for Atletico.

However, he is said to unhappy with the current wage gap between himself and team-mate Antoine Greizmann.

Greizmann signed a new contract last year reportedly worth £300,000-a-week while Saul is said to be on £90k.

According to AS, this has led to the 24-year-old considering his options elsewhere, with United one of the frontrunners for his signature.

Man City and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder, who has a £129m (€150m) release clause in his current deal.

But the Daily Mail say Atletico would be prepared to listen to offers around £80m, with the player’s camp seeing United as the best fit for him.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (from Crystal Palace)

Wan-Bissaka has starred for Palace this season and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by some of the Premier League’s big guns.

Right-back is a priority area for United with both Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian set to move on in the summer.

Ashley Young has filled in and Diogo Dalot has also featured but Wan-Bissaka has emerged as a top target for United, according to the Daily Mail.

Manchester City are also said to be keen in the 21-year-old, who is valued at £40m.

Kalidou Koulibaly (from Napoli)

The centre of defence is another area United are determined to strengthen this summer.

Solskjaer’s predecessor Jose Mourinho wasn’t given the funds to sign another centre-half after splashing out on Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.

However, the recently-appointed Norwegian may well be backed in his pursuit of Koulibaly.

Express Sport understands that the 27-year-old is high up on Solskjaer’s wanted list, with Napoli keen to recoup £110m for the Senegal star.
