Man Utd to decide on two ex-Chelsea bosses as final 'shortlist' to replace Ten Hag listed

Two former Chelsea managers are reportedly on the final shortlist to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United boss.

Ten Hag has been under pressure throughout the season, with the ownership group headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe yet to make a decision on the Dutchman’s future.

But if Ratcliffe and co. decide to end Ten Hag’s two-year tenure early, it’s reported a four-man shortlist, which includes two former Chelsea gaffers, has been drawn up.

As per The Times, one of those is Thomas Tuchel, who recently departed Bayern Munich, despite guiding the Bundesliga giant to the Champions League semi-final.

It’s claimed the United hierarchy have been long-time admirers of Tuchel and negotiations to bring him to Old Trafford could be made easier by the fact the German is believed to be open to a Premier League return.

Tuchel’s last spell in England’s top division came crashing to an end two years ago, when he came to blows with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.

The two didn’t see eye-to-eye about the club’s progression, which was a similar story for ex-Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino, who left his post earlier this week.

Pochettino managed less than one year in charge at Stamford Bridge before departing the west Londoners, with United said to have piqued their interest following the Argentine’s departure.

It’s suggested that Pochettino’s five-year stint in charge of Tottenham Hotspur has positioned him as an attractive option for the United hierarchy, given he was able to build a coherent style of play, while also involving plenty of young talent.

Elsewhere though, Thomas Frank is also being monitored by the Red Devils, having impressed in the Premier League ever since earning promotion with Brentford.

In his three seasons as Bees boss Frank has overseen 40 victories in the Premier League, with Chelsea also said to have the Dane on their list of potential managers.

Whereas Kieran McKenna is another up-and-coming manager attracting interest from major Premier League clubs.

McKenna – who earned promotion with Ipswich Town this season – spent time working in the Academy at United, before being promoted to the first-team coaching team.

The Northern Irishman, along with the trio of potential managerial targets, could be offered the job if Ten Hag is let go.

It’s suggested any decision on the ex-Ajax man’s future will come following the conclusion of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.
