United players are due back next week and the £15million capture of Daniel James remains Solskjaer’s only signing so far.
The Norwegian is still looking to bring in a number of new faces to strengthen a squad that struggled badly at the end of last season.
But Lindelof, 24, insists it is important that they are in place before their preparations for next term get underway.
“Pre-season is very important for the team,“ the centre-back said.
“New players come in and meet the group and I think it’s vital, especially this season, that we’re altogether in the beginning and work through things we want to do and the things we want to improve, so yeah I would say pre-season is very important.
“When I had just signed for the club [in June 2017], it was important for me to meet and bond with all the players and staff, see what what kind of personalities there are and see how the club worked. I really enjoyed it.”
Lindelof also revealed he and his team-mates have been working hard even during their summer holidays to ensure they are fit and raring to go when they face Chelsea on the opening weekend of 2019-20 on August 11.
Players including Scott McTominay have posted videos themselves training during the break.
“We are professionals,“ Lindelof added. ”So even when we’re on holiday we still have to train and keep the fitness levels up.
“The most important thing in pre-season is to get minutes on the pitch, feel the rhythm of the game and work through the tactics, so that everyone knows exactly what we want to do.”
While Lindelof wants United’s summer business completed as a matter of priority, the club are still in a state of limbo given the uncertainty over a number of their star players.
The future of Paul Pogba is still up in the air after he revealed he was looking for a new challenge.
Real Madrid are interested in signing Pogba but are only willing to pay £90m while United are holding out for closer to £150m.
David de Gea is still to extend his contract and he might need to be sold if they cannot agree terms as he could end ups leaving for nothing next summer.
Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku is unsettled and is understood to be eager to join Inter Milan.
As with Pogba, Inter and United are struggling to agree on a fee for the striker, though Mauro Icardi could be used in a complicated swap deal.
