A man was struck and killed by a northbound D train Thrusday, the Daily News has learned.
The man was on the tracks somewhere between the 182-183 St. Station and the Fordham Rd. Station in the Bronx Thursday morning when he was hit by the D train at approximately 8:50 a.m., transit sources told The News.
He was transported to nearby St. Barnabas hospital in critical condition with wounds to his abdomen, head and face. He was declared dead at the hospital, cops said.
C and D trains were briefly re-routed as crews worked to evacuate passengers from the D train onto a second subway. Normal service on both lines resumed at 10:13 a.m. with residual delays.
B train service was suspended following the incident, and remained so late Thursday morning.
It was not immediately clear why the man was in-between stations, but transit sources said he was on the tracks as the D train approached.
In 2023, the MTA reported that 241 people were hit by trains, with 97 fatalities.
