Man punched by stranger deriding him with anti-Muslim slurs in Midtown Manhattan

A man was punched in the face by a stranger deriding him with anti-Muslim slurs on a Midtown Manhattan street, police said Tuesday.

The 25-year-old victim was talking on his cellphone standing in front of a Fifth Ave. office building near 53rd St. when he was attacked about 8:45 p.m. Monday.

After being punched, he was taken by medics to NYU Langone Health in stable condition.

His attacker ran off and has not been caught. The NYPD released surveillance footage of the suspect Tuesday and asked the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down.

The bearded suspect is described as about 25, 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a gray hat, black T-shirt, tan shorts and black sneakers.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
