A man was found dead in the basement of an upscale Lower East Side hotel with stab wounds believed to be self-inflicted, police said.
NYPD cops responding to an 11:13 a.m. Sunday 911 call found the 49-year-old man dead in the basement of the Public Hotel on Chrystie St. near Stanon St. His name was not immediately released.
Police said the man was not a guest at the hotel and appears to have made his way into the basement. His official cause of death will be determined by a city Medical Examiner autopsy,
