Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered during Sunday’s clash against Arsenal, according to reports. Pep Guardiola has been dealt a cruel blow early in his pursuit of an unprecedented fifth successive Premier League title.
Days after Rodri admitted that players are close to going on strike to protest an increase in matches, he was forced off in the 21st minute of the 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
John Stones equalised with one of the last kicks of the game to deny title rivals Arsenal a monumental triumph on the champions’ turf.
But City’s bubble has been burst a day later, with Rodri, among the favourites for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award, set to be a long-term absentee.
According to ESPN, tests on Monday morning confirmed that Rodri had suffered an ACL tear in his right knee during the blockbuster Premier League encounter.
