Manchester City player ratings vs Tottenham Hotspur – Champions League
GK: Ederson – 6
Let the first of Son’s goals slip under him but no chance with the second or with Llorente’s close-range effort.
Made another smart stop from the Spaniard and was sharp off his line as Spurs pressed.
RB: Kyle Walker – 6
Questionable in defence as Son and Moura caused problems with their pace but was a real threat in the final third.
CB: Vincent Kompany – 8
Could only stand and watch as his team-mates went AWOL in the opening 10 minutes but rallied the troops and was titanic thereafter.
Didn’t deserve to end up on the losing side.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 3
Two glaring errors handed Son a pair of openings and he took both of them.
Never looked fully settled after that and needs to move on from this display quickly.
LB: Benjamin Mendy – 6
Like Walker on the other flank, his defending leaves a bit to be desired but his energy in attack cannot be faulted.
Kept his width well and was a dangerous outlet.
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 7
Defensive frailty was exposed in a frenetic match but his ball retention was superb as City piled on the pressure.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 9
An undependable cross gave Sterling his second and his mazy run and pass for Aguero was truly world class.
One of the stand-out performers for City with his range of passing creating chances at ease while a thunderous effort was tipped wide by Hugo Lloris.
CM: David Silva – 7
So experienced and knew when to put his foot on the ball and dictate the tempo.
RAM: Bernardo Silva – 8
Enjoyed a brilliant tussle with Danny Rose and earned his luck with his deflected goal.
Plenty of invention and always looked a threat in an advanced role.
LAM: Raheem Sterling – 9
Started the party with a masterful finish before timing his run to perfection for his second.
Thought he had won it with a hat-trick goal at the death, only to be denied by VAR.
ST: Sergio Aguero – 8
Linked the attack together and played a part in Bernardo’s goal before slamming home his chance emphatically.
SUB: Fernandinho (on for D. Silva, 62 mins) – 6
Made his presence felt as Guardiola searched for control.
SUB: Leroy Sane (on for Mendy, 83 mins) – N/A
Should have been introduced earlier.
