A man who authorities believe might be responsible for the murder of Rachel Morin nearly a year ago has been arrested, according to her family.
Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five, vanished on Aug. 5 after going for a run on a popular hiking trail in Bel Air.
Her naked body was found in a tunnel along the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail the following day. She had been badly beaten in what police referred to as a “random act of violence.”
The suspect, Victor Martinez-Hernandez, was arrested in Oklahoma late Friday night on murder and rape charges, The Baltimore Banner reported citing Morin’s family and court records.
Last year, during the initial investigation into Morin’s murder, authorities said DNA evidence appeared to link the suspect to a home break-in in Los Angeles.
“This individual is believed to have ties to the Los Angeles area and may have been involved in violent crimes in other states,” authorities said.
The Harford County Sheriff’s office has yet to confirm the latest developments. However, Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said in a statement shared on social media he would provide an “update on the Rachel Morin homicide investigation” Saturday afternoon.
