A man was arrested Monday for allegedly ramming a car into a security gate at an Atlanta-area Federal Bureau of Investigation office.
The incident happened around noon Monday in Chamblee, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, when a vehicle with South Carolina plates tried to tail a government vehicle past the security gate, the bureau said in a statement.
The suspect slammed into the barrier, which re-engages every time a vehicle goes through.
The suspect then got out of the car and tried to run inside, but was tackled by several agents in the immediate vicinity.
The vehicle was searched for explosives and other materials before it was cleared. It was destroyed in the incident.
Overhead footage of the scene showed a disabled, red-orange SUV with a striped barrier sticking into its hood. The crossover-type vehicle was towed away around 4 p.m.
The suspect was not immediately identified and no motive was released, but the bureau said he was not connected to it or the employee who was followed. He was taken to a hospital for mental evaluation by DeKalb County police, and no other injuries were reported.
The FBI said the suspect faced both state and federal charges, but the investigation was ongoing.
