If there’s one thing that people can be very particular about, it’s what should and shouldn’t be put on top of a pizza.
For years people have been debating whether the addition of pineapple is genius, or a complete and utter abomination.
But it seems there might be a new food argument heading our way, as one Reddit user has just revealed they like to put something very controversial on top of their deep dish.
An unnamed man has confessed that often he bakes himself a pizza with watermelon on top.
Yep, you read that right. Watermelon.
In his post on Reddit, the man known only as WatermelonOnPizza222, explained how the strange topping initially started out as a dare, but he ended up really enjoying the taste.
He wrote: “I like watermelon on pizza. I was asked to do it on a dare and I really liked it. So I put watermelon on my pizza now.
“What I do is let it bake basically until it’s done with a few minutes to spare, then I put the watermelon on then put it in until everything is cooked fully.”
He goes on to say that a few people have called him “crazy” for doing this, but he hadn’t encountered any real issues until recently.
He reveals that his first major problem occurred on Monday, August 12 after inviting his friend John over for a slice.
It’s fair to say that John did not take well to being served watermelon pizza.
So the man has now taken to the internet to find out once and for all just how weird his preferred pizza topping really is.
And people have not held back their opinions.
One user branded the man “depraved” for eating the fruit as a pizza topping.
“Honestly, you’re so depraved I think you should be put on a list somewhere,” they said.
Another commented: “Watermelon? That’s in a new circle of Hell after the pineapple debacle. Wet pizza? That’s f***ed up.”
A third added: “I like pineapple on pizza but this is a bridge too far.”
However some people were intrigued by the idea.
“Watermelon with basil and balsamic is dank so I kind wanna try this tbh,” replied someone else.
A second suggested using the watermelon for something very different: “I once replaced the buns of a hamburger wit two slices of watermelon. It was delicious.”
